Ross Winter's musical landscape is an intricate mosaic, crafted from an eclectic blend of influences gathered like treasures in the pockets of time. Imagine reaching into the folds of an old pair of jeans and discovering remnants of left pocket fingerstyle guitar intermingled with the ethereal echoes of a 2000s rave in Leeds. His acoustic melodies resonate with the poignant introspection of Nick Drake, traversing themes of grief, trauma, and mental health with a raw authenticity that pierces the soul.
Yet, Ross Winter is more than a musician; he's a sensitive soul on a profound artistic journey, channelling his insights on human behaviour into evocative compositions that straddle the delicate balance between the macro and microcosms of existence. With a background in drawing and painting, he learned the art of stepping back to focus on the bigger picture, seamlessly translating this skill into his music, weaving intricate sonic tapestries that resonate on both a personal and universal level.
Born on the 11th of August, 1980, in Malton, a rural town in North Yorkshire. Ross's artistic odyssey began in earnest upon his move to York and later Leeds and Bristol, where he immersed himself in the vibrant music scene while studying art and design and music technology. His journey led him to the pulsating heart of the DIY Glasgow music scene, where he found success with his post-punk band Sex Cakes, captivating audiences at festivals like Doune The Rabbit Hole, and Sol Fest.
Ross Winter's sound is shaped by a kaleidoscope of influences, from the hypnotic rhythms of underground raves to the introspective melodies of acoustic guitar.
